Crumb rubber plates may cost less than virgin rubber plates, but this is definitely a situation where you get what you pay for. The binding agent can break down over time, potentially allowing pieces of the plate to break off with use. I’m greatly oversimplifying the process, but recycled or “crumb” rubber plates are made from very small pieces of old tires pressed into shape and held together with a chemical binding agent. ![]() Vulcan black bumper plates are made of virgin rubber rather than recycled rubber, which results in a denser and therefore more durable plate. The Vulcan black bumper plates are Olympic-sized plates. I’ll cover what I did to address the rubber smell in a separate section. However, if you’re sensitive to the smell of rubber or intend to use the plates in a small enclosed space there are steps you can take to neutralize the odor. The flyer explains that the odor goes away with time and exposure to air. The odor from these particular plates is low, but still noticeable. This is entirely normal and applies to any product made of rubber, not just bumper plates. Vulcan black bumper plates are made of virgin rubber, which smells like…you guessed it, rubber. One of the points covered in the flyer was regarding the smell of brand new bumper plates. It’s essentially the same information available on their bumper plate product page, printed up in flyer form. I thought it was a nice touch, especially for someone new to bumper plates like myself. This makes a deep-cycle battery perfect for running a trolling motor at the same power all day.ĭeep-cycle trolling motor batteries fall into three categories: flooded wet-cell, absorbent glass mat (AGM), or lithium-iron-phosphate. A deep cycle battery will hold a charge longer and discharge power consistently until it is almost dead. To power a trolling motor, first choose a 12-volt deep-cycle battery. What to Consider When Choosing a Trolling Motor Battery Heavy-duty, tin-alloy cells improve performance in floating or cyclical charging. The electrolyte suspension system absorbs electrolytes without contaminants for pure power transfer. When the eardrum vibrates, the sound waves are transferred to the middle ear bones and travel via the hammer and anvil to the stirrup and then on to the oval window. What is the oval window? In the middle ear, the oval window is a membrane covering the entrance to the cochlea in the inner ear. These three middle ear bones form a kind of bridge, and the stirrup, which is the last bone that sounds reach, is connected to the oval window. The vibrations are transmitted further into the ear via three bones in the middle ear: the hammer (malleus), the anvil (incus) and the stirrup (stapes). The bone is so-named because of its resemblance to a stirrup ( Latin: stapes), an example of a late Latin word, probably created in mediaeval times from "to stand" ( Latin: stapia), as stirrups did not exist in the early Latin-speaking world. Spanish anatomist Pedro Jimeno is first to have been credited with a published description, in Dialogus de re medica (1549). The stapes is commonly described as having been discovered by the professor Giovanni Filippo Ingrassia in 1546 at the University of Naples, although this remains the nature of some controversy, as Ingrassia's description was published posthumously in his 1603 anatomical commentary In Galeni librum de ossibus doctissima et expectatissima commentaria. : 254–262 History The stapes, as first described by Giovanni Filippo Ingrassia (Labeled M, bottom right). : 661 Surgery may be complicated by a persistent stapedial artery, fibrosis-related damage to the base of the bone, or obliterative otosclerosis, resulting in obliteration of the base. Two common treatments are stapedectomy, the surgical removal of the stapes and replacement with an artificial prosthesis, and stapedotomy, the creation of a small hole in the base of the stapes followed by the insertion of an artificial prosthesis into that hole. Otosclerosis is more likely in young age groups, and females. Clinical otosclerosis is found in about 1% of people, although it is more common in forms that do not cause noticeable hearing loss. Often this causes the stapes to adhere to the oval window, which impedes its ability to conduct sound, and is a cause of conductive hearing loss. Otosclerosis is a congenital or spontaneous-onset disease characterized by abnormal bone remodeling in the inner ear. ![]() The stapes is also stabilized by the stapedius muscle, which is innervated by the facial nerve. Situated between the incus and the inner ear, the stapes transmits sound vibrations from the incus to the oval window, a membrane-covered opening to the inner ear.
